IBM also announced an update to Watson Discovery with the release of a new version of its Watson search engine. The data comes from a series of questions IBM calls Jeopardy – such as the doctor’s dilemma, a series of questions that include questions about a syndrome characterized by high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and other health conditions.
Wellpoint, one of the largest insurers in the United States, is part of a group of companies helping define Watson’s application in healthcare. The other is IBM Health, an organization with which IBM already has a relationship and which is based in New York City, where the first Watson is still housed.
Watson AI to challenge humans in a quiz show
Jeopardy Watson and Healthcare Watson share a common heritage: both behave in the same way, with the goal of getting an answer, understanding it, and finding the related questions. IBM was the first to tie healthcare to Watson at the time of the Jeopardy win, but it has since bifurcated the Watson code for its commercial incarnation.
